Olynthos is an ancient town situated in a verdant valley near the Gulf of Toroni, on the Kassandra peninsula of Halkidiki in northern Greece.
The area was first settled during the Neolithic Era (5300-4500 BC), and according to local traditions took its name from the son of the mythical river god Strymon.
Archaeological finds suggest that olive production has been a mainstay of the area for millennia, thanks to the region’s unique climatic conditions and the prevalence of the large local variety of olives, which is perfectly suited to these conditions.
The “Almades” are harvested from
the tree as soon as they assume their distinctive dark hue.
This traditional, all-natural process is responsible for their unique texture and fruity flavor.
The term “Almades” refers to branch ripened olives that have been treated only with natural sea salt and no artificial preservatives
The large local variety of olives is famous for its juicy fruit, and is considered by many gastronomes as one of the finest olives available.
