The ecotourism or “green tourism”, as it is said, is a mild form of sustainable tourist development, friendly to the environment. Under the modern prospect of viability, the development of tourism has to respect and keep pace with the national, local, cultural, economic and environmental particularities and conditions. The development of ecological tourism offers multiple advantages for the protection of the environment, the balanced regional development and the abode of the population in a concrete region. Ecotourism means hospitality in a frugal environment with local character, and gives the visitor the opportunity to get acquainted with the rural life, the cultivations, and the agricultural occupations, with the nature, the flora and the fauna. Moreover, it gives the possibility to the visitor to get familiar with the mores and customs of a region that revive in an authentic way as well as to participate in an active way in a range of activities such as rural activities (collecting of olive, vintage), observation of birds, fauna, flora, visits to water biotopes, participation in adventure sports (rafting, hikes, glacis parachute), cultural tours (churches, abbeys, monuments, bridges, traditional buildings), gastronomy, (wine factories, biological, local products, production of honey) as well as courses for traditional activities (loom, Greek dances). |
